These little items were made for my little Bubbles by my friend Kelly, who’s very talented with the ol’ crochet hook. Kelly is just getting ready to start her Etsy store, but in the meantime takes custom orders! You can contact her at luv[ _ ]country[ _ ]sunshine[ at ]yahoo[ dot ]com.
Enjoy, and don’t forget to email Kelly!

May 28th, 2010Ever-present history
April 28th, 2010I’m an in-house designer. My official title is Senior Designer/Projects Director. My Art Director works remotely. What that means is that in the past couple of years, I’ve had to train employees to our way of doing things. In those past couple of years, I’ve learned something very important—about design, and about my way of thinking—history is ever-present.
I could go on and on about De Stijl, Italian poster design in the late 19th century, and illuminated manuscripts, but I won’t; that’s my soapbox. What I will point out is an example. A few, actually. Dan Brown brought ambigrams to light in Angels & Demons, and in the past couple years traditional German blackletter typefaces have made a comeback. What’s the point? The point is, while poring over a dusty Communication Arts that I just hadn’t gotten around to reading, I found a prime example of how history permeates today’s design. Enter the Oak Room redesign—by Pentagram. Yep, you got it, the famous Oak Room in New York City’s Plaza hotel and Pentagram.
The redesign is mostly a beautiful blackletter, and I mention ambigrams because the single-letter mark that Pentagram created is on a diagonal axis, distinctly reminiscent of ambigrams.
Thanks, Pentagram, for adding fuel to my fire!
Long time gone…

March 4th, 2010I found these beautiful Victorian-esque photos on Pied Piper Photography’s blog and had to share! I adore the whimsy and nostalgic quality of these photos…I found myself daydreaming of elephants and carnivals…
Inspirations: Home-made handbags
February 25th, 2010
I’ve been thinking a lot about sewing lately. Maybe it’s the nesting instinct, maybe it’s because of my son’s racecar quilt, or maybe it’s because I haven’t done something creative for myself in a really long time. Who knows?! On a whim today, I decided to visit a blog I haven’t been to in a while just because of its name—Sew, Mama, Sew!—and voila! Inspiration. And a DIY tutorial! What could be better? Check out the tutorial here, and Jennifer’s Etsy store here!

Daily loves: Pin up girls!
February 12th, 2010Don’t know why, but I really do love pin-up art, especially when it’s applied to modern-day design! Well done, Carlo Pieroni!
Daily loves: crab
January 29th, 2010Ok, well, I don’t love crab. What I do love is this: in my small town, February means one thing. Crab feeds. Maybe it’s the Northwest, or maybe it’s just the small towns around me, but around here, crab feeds are big. Naturally, since February is just around the corner, I’ve been thinking a lot about crab, and while I don’t enjoy the meal, I did find some really cool “crabby” things.
